Who Are CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland)

For over twenty years CHAS has been offering a full family support service for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions. They’re committed to making sure that no matter how short their time together may be, it is a time filled with happiness and fun.

There are currently more than 16,000 children in Scotland with a life-shortening condition and each week, three of those children die. At the moment, CHAS only reach one of those children and their families to provide the vital care and support that they deserve.

What they Do

Children and families across every parliamentary region in Scotland has access to CHAS’s services, which include:

  • Two hospices: Rachel House (Kinross) and Robin House (Balloch) – providing respite; end of life care; family support including social work; income maximisation service; bereavement support; transition to adult services for 18-21 year olds; dedicated activities teams.
  • CHAS at Home: operates in every local authority area – providing highly-skilled nursing care for children in their own homes.
  • Hospital Teams: CHAS has a specialist team in every children’s hospital in Scotland. Our Diana’s Children’s Nurses provide specialist support alongside the NHS in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Virtual hospice: accelerated by COVID-19, virtual delivery now underpins all our services. From May-Dec 2020, the CHAS Virtual Hospice reached an average of 170 families per month

CHAS want to be there for every family – to help them make the most of the happy times, and give love and support during the toughest. Your support will help CHAS to care for more families across Scotland, just like Sophie’s.

“Harry and I have been really full on when it comes to Soph’s care. It never stops. It came so naturally to us both, just like a parental instinct. Harry sleeps downstairs with her as we were told she’d be most likely to die from having a seizure in her sleep and we want to make sure that someone is there by her side at all times. She’ll never be alone.” – Lyndsey, Sophie’s mum
